Reconnect with Alison Pottle

Published on September 2, 2025

Ms Alison Pottle was just 18 years of age when she first started her nursing career in London. With a strong interest in coronary care, she first joined Harefield Hospital in 1985 with the knowledge that it was a world-renowned heart and lung hospital where transplantation surgeries were performed.

Alison felt at home very quickly and fell in love with the friendly Harefield atmosphere where everybody knew each other.

Her determination to push boundaries led her to be appointed as nurse consultant in cardiology in June 2000, one of the first post of its kind in the country. Over the last 25 years, she has continually flourished in her role and felt a sense of constant encouragement that has enabled her to pursue new opportunities, resulting in better patient care.

She explains, “you don't have to be a doctor to do certain things. You don't have to be a nurse to do certain things. You just need to be the right person to do it. And if you've got the training, the skills, and the experience your title isn’t the issue. It's about getting the right person.”
