Reconnect with Professor Martin Cowie
It was 1990 and over 30 degrees in London when Martin Cowie arrived at the Royal Brompton as a SHO from rural Aberdeenshire. Despite the challenging technical knowledge he had to learn quickly, he realised it was a great place to work, and the patients felt that they were being treated to the best possible standards.
His determination to push boundaries led him to progress as a Professor of cardiology and head of the heart failure unit.
Prof. Martin Cowie explains, “The Brompton has had the reputation of being right at the front edge of clinical practice and research. So, it has an international reputation, which it's had for a very, very long time. As a junior doctor, even I had heard about the Brompton working in Scotland, and when I had the opportunity to apply for a rotation, I thought let’s see what that’s all about. Today it remains, right at the front edge of cardiology and cardiovascular practice.“
