Reconnect with Professor Malcolm Green
Early on in his career, esteemed former consultant respiratory physician Professor Sir Malcolm Green realised Royal Brompton Hospital was a world class centre for respiratory medicine and wanted to become a part of it.
He was appointed a respiratory SHO in 1969 and has been associated to the Brompton since. To this day, he continues his dedication towards our hospitals, as President of Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals Alumni Network.
In his 55 years at the Brompton, he has nurtured his passion for lung physiology research, pushed boundaries, set up the British Lung Foundation to raise charitable funds to aid lung research and, led the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI).
He explains, “What the Brompton has, that nowhere else in the country has; is the number of experts committed to heart research, education, and care on one hand. And on the other hand, lung research, education, and care. I think that is extremely important. The nation’s ability to provide good care in those fields is having the time and determination to bring them into a place that can concentrate not only on common things, but also on the rare things.”
